Cupid and Psyche

Cupid and Psyche (Turtle Theatre Productions)

Venue/Date of Show: Bidding for North Wall, Trinity 2026

Deadline: Sunday 9th November

We are looking for a set designer.

‘Cupid and Psyche’ by Louise Guy is a reimagining of the myth of Cupid and Psyche as a romantic comedy. It was sold out for two nights in Christ Church Cathedral Gardens last term, and was enthusiastically reviewed in the Oxford Student (‘the dialogue crackles with Wildean barbs…both a satire of romantic tradition and a celebration’).

When Cupid falls in love at first sight with Psyche, a beautiful mortal princess, he is determined to keep their relationship secret from his domineering mother Venus by any means possible, including remaining persistently invisible and pretending to be a monster. Comic chaos ensues as Psyche tries to discover her husband’s identity, her sisters advise her to murder him, and just when all misunderstandings appear to have been resolved, Venus delivers a terrible ultimatum. Will the lovers find their happy ever after?

We are looking for an elegant and intimate set which draws the audience into the developing relationship of the protagonists. The action takes place partly in Psyche's garden and partly in Cupid's secret palace at the foot of the mountain.
