How Does Student Theatre at The University of Oxford Work?
Student theatre, performance and comedy takes place within a very decentralised system across the University of Oxford. No one society or group programmes each term’s shows.
For comedy, there are a few different societies and groups who perform sketch, stand-up and improv comedy - in particular, The Oxford Revue and The Imps.
Theatre productions are staged by students’ own production companies - being a group of students who together stage their own production, giving you complete creative freedom over the work you produce. These groups are facilitated and supported by Oxford University Dramatic Society (OUDS) and Oxford University Technical Theatre Society (OUTTS) - head to these societies for more information on how this works!
Many colleges in the university have their own drama societies too, who will often stage an annual theatre production.
You’ll also find many student societies beyond this too - from The Gilbert and Sullivan Society, light entertainment and panto from OULES , to many other college groups.
Join in with what is already happening, or set up your own project!
This website has been set-up to support theatre and performance across the whole of the University of Oxford. It is funded by The Cameron Mackintosh Drama Fund. The operation of the website is run by a shared collective between the OUDS and OUTTS committees and the University Drama Officer. If you’re interested in getting involved in the running of the site, or have any suggestions to improve it, do get in touch!
