Summary:
As You Like It is a romantic comedy that follows Rosalind, who disguises herself as a young man after being banished from court. She, her cousin Celia, and the fool Touchstone flee to the Forest of Arden, where they encounter love, confusion, and self-discovery. There, Rosalind tests the sincerity of her beloved Orlando, while other pairs—like Touchstone and Audrey, and Silvius and Phoebe—find their own forms of love. By the end, disguises are dropped, families are reconciled, and four couples marry.

Shakespeare celebrates the transformative power of love, contrasting the corruption of court life and family dynamics with the freedom of the natural world, and exploring identity and gender through disguise. The play shows that ultimately humour, forgiveness, and self-knowledge lead to harmony and happiness.

Our Vision:
Common Ground Theatre aims to produce accessible theatre and with this production looks to make Shakespeare available to those who may struggle to access his works. The company will look to do this through two key strands; one, making the theatre more accessible to those with various disabilities, taking into account lived experiences so that disabled people may have easier connection to the characters and storytelling of the play; two, so that those who struggle to understand the language and historical or cultural contexts of the play can better engage with the emotional journey of the performance.

If you would like to apply, please complete this form by the 10th November 2025:

Common Ground Theatre are committed to diversity and inclusion, actively encouraging LGBTQ+, BAME, disabled and state-school educated creatives to apply. No experience is required and freshers are encouraged to apply. This is a good opportunity for those wanting to get into OUDS or OUTTS to get involved with.
