Show Title: Completely Bloody Incoherent
Venue/Date of Show: Bidding Pilch Week 6/7 TT26
Content Warnings:
Deadline: Sunday 8th March
Description: What is art: is it the grandiose plays of Shakespeare, or your mother’s half-remembered childhood stories? What does it mean to be an actor: are you an artist in your own right, or a writer’s puppet? And what does it mean to take artistic risks: are you a pioneer, or simply economically unviable?
Completely Bloody Incoherent situates itself at the heart of these debates. Drawing its title from the abundance of negative, male-authored criticism dismissing woman-authored postmodern theatre as ‘incoherent’, the play sets to challenge entrenched ideals of naturalistic, ‘coherent’ storytelling and the hierarchies that uphold them. It does so through a fragmented narrative that flits between three worlds: the flat of Dahlia (an up-and-coming playwright) and Jamie (her partner of seven months and an unsuccessful film actor); Dahlia’s increasingly experimental theatre workshop; and a strange, shadowy dreamscape haunted by the voices and images of childhood. Weaving between these fragments, we are made to confront the difficulties of communication, the restrictive dictates of ‘art’, and the power structures embedded in theatrical performance.
Splinters Productions are recruiting for the following crew roles to help us translate this exciting new play to the stage:
