1759. Any day now, a comet will appear in the sky, as predicted by Edmund Halley. On the ground, the murder of a child tears a community apart. The young murderer is condemned to death, but as the noose awaits, she pleads pregnancy. A jury of women are taken from their housework and locked away until they can decide whether she’s telling the truth or lying to escape her fate.
