‘Noether’ is a project which has been in development for the past year. It explores the life of Emmy Noether, an exceptional mathematician/physicist who worked in 1920s/30s Germany. Despite monumental contributions to mathematics, as well as being hailed as a genius by the likes of Einstein, Noether is often a name missed from the history books. In her early career, she faced immense difficulty due to being a woman, then, once an established mathematician, was dismissed from University by the Nazi government due to being Jewish. This play will chronicle her life, critically examining what it means to be a female-pioneer in a male-dominated field, and ultimately asking the question as to whether much has changed 100 years later.

As this play is primarily a devising-project, the play’s story will be shaped by the company, however verbatim has been gathered from various points in Noether’s life and this will be used as a starting point. We are looking to cast 8 ensemble members, who will devise and perform in the show. We will be running physical-theatre auditions, please see the audition pack for more information.
