Lighthouse Productions are looking for 2 actors for Sam Steiner’s two-hander, Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons, in Weeks 3-5 HT26.

About the play
Lemons follows a young couple as they struggle to navigate the implementation of the Quietude Bill, a decree that limits all citizens to just 140 words a day. There are some things you can’t say in just 140 words. Forget wedding speeches, or presentations or epic poetry. Songs. The suppression of language threatens the foundations of Bernadette and Oliver’s relationship.

Lemons imagines a world where we’re forced to say less. But it’s the seemingly trivial topics that feed human connection: pet cemeteries, cheese graters, and lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons.

Through his depiction of the effects of the Hush Law, Steiner illustrates the human experience of not being able to communicate how you feel. This is a play which explores not only the wider issues of democracy and free speech, but also the more intimate issues which lie at the centre of our relationships. It’s a study on human behaviour - choosing when to save your words for your partner, or when to use them up to avoid certain conversations. The ramifications of the law reveal the hidden flaws already bubbling beneath the surface of their relationship.

ROLES AVAILABLE
⁠Oliver - A musician and activist with a poetic zeal. He is vocal against the Hush Law.
Bernadette - A divorce lawyer from a working-class background. She is pragmatic and measured.
