Audition Type: Self tape first round, in person call backs on Friday 5th
La Voix Humaine stages a phone call between a woman and her partner of five years, who has recently left her and is set to marry someone else the very next day. As the woman spirals into despair, the phone is both the only thing tying her to her former lover, and the very reason for her suffocating isolation. Cocteau’s play ultimately explores the devastating consequences of communication barriers, and asks whether relationships can survive the strain placed on them by technology.
We’re keen to foreground that Wood’s translation of Cocteau’s play is just that: a translation. This production will think about what it means to change Cocteau’s French into English, and what is communicated, miscommunicated, or lost along the way.
We are looking for:
- The woman (female-presenting, the protagonist of the show)
- The lover (any gender, French-speaking role)
All information, including more details character descriptions, can be found in the audition pack.
Happy auditioning, et bon courage!!
