You. Do. Not. Have. The. Power.
David Mamet's Oleanna one of the most contentious plays of modern theatre.
It is a razor-sharp, explosive drama exploring power, privilege and gender politics in the education setting. Set in an American college campus, it follows the fallout after misconduct accusations against a professor. It forces audiences to confront vitally relevant questions, especially pertinent in Oxford nowadays.
Harold Pinter directed the debut UK production, stating, 'there can be no tougher or more unflinching play than Oleanna'.
TW: Strong violence, strong language, sexual assault and themes of rape
If you are affected by any of the themes or issues raised in this production, support is available through It Happens Here Oxford, Oxford's Sexual Harassment and Violence Support Service (SHVSS), Student Welfare and Support Services, or organisations such as the Rape Crisis UK (0808 500 2222).
After their acclaimed productions of Mike Bartlett's Bull and Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation, Boulevard Productions returns to present Mamet's biting tragedy.
Previous praise for Boulevard Productions:
'A practically perfect production… tears poured from my eyes like an overflowing washing-up bowl. And without even realising it, I was on my feet applauding' - Peter Kessler, President's Husband Reviews on Circle Mirror Transformation
'[Bull] is, by far and away, the nastiest, tightest, and possibly the best student production I’ve seen in Oxford. I can’t recommend it enough.' - The Oxford Student on Bull
The show is estimated to run for approximately 90 minutes with no interval.
