Egotistical literary critic Sebastian and WW2 Estonian refugee Lydia have been married for nearly two decades, with a son Joey. Each tries to protect the other from the knowledge of Lydia's terminal illness, unknowingly confiding in the same friend, Mark. When the four come together one evening, tensions begin to surface, revealing the complexities of the couple’s relationship and threatening to either destroy or mend their dysfunctional equilibrium.
