Hi all!
So excited to be opening up OUDS committee elections! Nominations are open for all roles on both the OUDS executive committee and the standing committee. The incoming committee’s tenure will start this Trinity ‘26 and end next Hilary ‘27!
The Executive Committee comprises the President, Treasurer, Secretary, and Welfare Officer; applications must be made directly for these roles. These roles may each only be occupied by one person (i.e. no co-presidencies).
Applications for the Standing Committee are not position specific, although specific roles will be delegated (by the elected President) after they have been elected. You may choose to apply for a specific role, or just to apply to be on the standing committee generally.
(Confused? There's a description of individual roles at the bottom of this post).
Applicants for the executive committee must contact the person currently occupying the role they are interested in to speak about what the role involves.
If you are applying for president, you must contact Theo Joly (president@ouds.org)
If you are applying for secretary, you must contact Nate Wintraub (secretary@ouds.org)
If you are applying for treasurer, you must contact Gilon Fox (treasurer@ouds.org)
If you are applying for welfare, you must contact Emily Cullinan (welfare.ouds@gmail.com)
If you wish to apply for the role of Treasurer you must seek the endorsement of the Senior Treasurer [David Taylor, david.taylor@st-hughs.ox.ac.uk] by arranging a meeting with him, to take place before the deadline for the submission of candidacy, Sunday March 1st. The Senior Treasurer may endorse as many candidacies for Treasurer as they see fit. A Member who does not receive the Senior Treasurer's endorsement may continue to stand for the position of Treasurer, but the endorsement, or lack thereof, shall be clearly conveyed to all voters by the Secretary.
You can nominate yourself for any of the roles by filling out this form and attaching a manifesto for the position you are applying for
Your manifesto should outline why you want to be part of the OUDS committee, any ideas you would want to implement in the role or what you would provide during your time in office. The closing date for applications is Sunday 1st March at 11:59pm [Sunday before 7th Week]. On the next Tuesday (3rd March), hustings will take place, where you are expected to present your manifesto and answer any questions on it.
Examples of former manifestos can be found in this drive:
Only matriculated students of the University of Oxford and Full Members of OUDS [registered on the mailing list with an Oxford University email address] can run for positions, unless approved as a Full Member of the Society by the committee.
For more information on positions and the structuring of the society please refer to the following copy of the OUDS by-laws:
Once the period of nominations has closed, a list of candidates will be announced on the OUDS Facebook. There will then be a period of time for members to register formal objections to nominations. Objections will need to be submitted to the Secretary (secretary@ouds.org) by 11.59pm on Monday 2nd March. An anonymous online vote will then take place at the end of 7th Week with results announced shortly after.
If you have any further questions, please contact Nate (the current secretary) at secretary@ouds.org
