We are looking for a Director and Musical Director (as well as Assistant Directors/MDs) for The Sorcerer, Gilbert and Sullivan’s earliest surviving full-length opera. Auditions will be held in-person on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of W7 (5/6/7th March).
The venue, dates and times are as yet unconfirmed, but will likely be week 7 or 8 of Trinity.
Director: in charge of the concept for the production. In charge of rehearsal scheduling with producer, and has input in choosing venue.
Musical Director: in charge of rehearsing the singers, as well as gathering, rehearsing and conducting the orchestra. Helpful but not essential if MD can also be a repetiteur.
AD: help lead blocking and dialogue rehearsals when director cannot.
AMD: help lead music rehearsals and teach music. Preferable if AMD is a repetiteur.
The whole creative team will be in charge of creating a cast call, and organising and running auditions.
The plot of the opera concerns Alexis, who hires a sorcerer, J.W. Wells, to give everyone in his village a potion that makes them fall in love with the first person they see. When chaos erupts and the villagers discover the plot, Wells sacrifices himself to undo the effects of the potion.
