We are searching for people to join the initial core of the production team for Aphra Behn’s 'The Rover' in advance of our bid for the Playhouse slot for Trinity Term 2026 (w/c Sunday 17 May 2026).

ABOUT THE PLAY:
Some things never change.
Written in 1677 by Aphra Behn, our 'Rover' will be set in London in 2004: peak tabloid Britain. Carnival becomes award season, and masks are swapped for sunglasses to dodge the flash.
Our soldiers on leave become four notorious party boys, who, over a long weekend, hunt women, headlines, and each other. The women play the same game.
This was the era of Heat magazine, Russell Brand’s eyeliner, and the Groucho Club at 4 am. All press is good press.

FOR FRESHERS: WHAT IS THE OXFORD PLAYHOUSE? Once a term the Oxford Playhouse has one week-long slot for Oxford University student productions. The Playhouse is a 630-seat professional theatre that offers students a scale, facilities, and technical support that is unparalleled by other universities. It provides a significant opportunity to showcase actors and creatives’ work to the industry. We would encourage anyone whose skill set/experience/interests align with any of these roles to apply. For those wanting to get involved in positions of lesser responsibility, subsequent crew calls for assistants will be released.

We are currently searching for 2 people to take on the following roles:
SET DESIGNER. Design and develop the overall concept and look of the set with the Oxford Playhouse team in line with the Director’s vision. Produce sketches, models, and digital mock-ups of the set design. Collaborate with the Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, and Stage Manager to ensure ideas work across departments. Potentially oversee construction and decoration of the set. A Head of Department role who would manage a team of Set Assistants; any Set Assistants would be chosen by the Set Designer with support from the Producers.
STAGE MANAGER. Effectively run the show during its performance week. Oversee a team of Assistant Stage Managers to manage all backstage activity – scene changes, props, making sure actors are in place, etc. Supervise the “get-in” and technical rehearsals. Attend as many rehearsals as possible taking detailed notes about the show as it develops. A Head of Department role who would manage a team of Deputy and Assistant Stage Managers; any Deputy/Assistant Stage Managers would be chosen by the Stage Manager with support from the Producers.

If you are interested in applying, please fill out the short application form.
