Description: ‘On Some Far Shore’ is an original 60-minute contemporary three-hander musical written by Louis Benneyworth. Telling the story of a young man who has recently lost his mother to pancreatic cancer, we see how the stories that she tells him in the past have come to influence the way he has relationships today, and how this grief shapes his artistic and personal life. The musical intends to explore themes of attachment, parenthood, loss, finding common ground, and the power found in the way that stories are told, explored with the help of a constant allegorical reference to the sea and the shore. It draws on a wide range of influences like ‘The Last Five Years’, ‘The Mad Ones’, ‘Hadestown’, ‘If/When’, and ‘Dogfight’.
