Description: In British Colonial Africa, Clive struggles to keep control of both his family and ‘the natives’. While he sleeps with a fleeing widower, his wife Betty, son Edward, and slave Joshua all sleep with Harry the explorer. The play then jumps to 1979, but only 25 years have passed for these characters. Ultimately, the 70s come with sexual freedom and emotional tragedy for them all.
Churchill’s riotous and heartbreaking play has all the actors crossdressing and multiroling at different times of the play. We want our production to focus on what it means to be British, taking the good parts with the bad. We want liminal spaces to feature anachronistic details to evoke contemporary fears of Reform, celebrations of ‘Cool Britannia’, and all the ugly elements of Britain’s history.
We are looking for the following roles:
Marketing Manager
Production Manager
Producer - Some Experience Preferred.
Stage Manager
Welfare Officer
Set Designer
Costume Designer
Projectionist - Some Experience Preferred.
Lighting Designer - Some Experience Preferred.
Sound Designer - Some Experience Preferred.
