Description: As one of the first plays of its time to feature a queer character whom the audience empathises with, The Children’s Hour by Lillian Hellman is a historically significant landmark. Despite being banned in several locations for its portrayal of a lesbian character, it received positive reviews, reflecting the beginnings of a slow but crucial change in the perception of queer media in the first half of the 20th century.

It explores the deep impact of rumours and misinformation, highlighting how a seemingly harmless lie from a naïve source can quickly grow into a grave threat to a person’s livelihood. In this context, the play also examines how feelings of internal shame are fuelled by public condemnation, especially when such lies reflect hidden truths.

Auditions are by self-tape or in-person, and the deadline is Sunday, October 11th at 11:59pm.
