An American actress and faded child star arrives on a small film set in Norway, having been offered the lead part in a Norwegian film adaptation of ‘Hedda Gabler’. She’s running away from her reality in America: defined and undermined by her past as a child star, hounded by the media, grieving her father’s death and a recent break-up, and an unfortunate collision between her self-driving car and a member of the paparazzi. Awaiting her in Norway is Henrik, the demanding director and self-proclaimed visionary auteur, whose artistic obsession quickly devolves into abusive behaviour, and a cast and crew that tolerates his abuse, each individually struggling with their own mental health, identities and search for meaning. The line between reality and fiction becomes increasingly unstable and blurred as the actors start to inhabit their characters’ minds and fulfil their fates.
