Blackbird Hour (OUDS Centre Stage Festival)

Centre Stage, a brand new theatre festival produced by OUDS, brings the Bruntwood Finalist play, 'blackbird hour' to Oxford!

Content Warning: mental health struggles, grief

Eshe hasn't left her flat in days. She sits in her bed and rows. She is free to express her pain on her own terms, in her own space. As she sits in her room, with her late mother's voice in constant conversation with her, her ex-girlfriend and best friend both try desperately to reach her. As Eshe grapples with her relationships, trauma and the limits of external care, an unfiltered image of mental health is showcased through the lens of a queer black British woman and the people who love her.


Babirye Bukilwa wrote this note at the start of 'blackbird hour': "this is not a play about inverted comma mental health inverted comma nor is it an Angry Black Women issue play"

We are looking for four actors for this two-night only performance in Week 7, at The Pilch.

We are looking for:

§ Eshe (black, dark-skinned, female-presenting)

§ Ella (black, female-presenting)

§ Michael (black, male-presenting)

§ Sissy Voice (black, female-presenting)

IN PERSON AUDITIONS: Sunday 15th February,Monday 16th February, Tuesday 17th February

SELF-TAPE DEADLINE: Wednesday 18th February 9am. Please do let us know in advance if you are submitting a self-tape. Info can be found at the link.

No experience is necessary!! We would especially love to hear from freshers and those new to OUDS, as well as those who feel experienced, so get those applications in!
